Keeping active is important for health, fitness and mobility. It is also valuable for developing confidence and social skills.


Gym Programme

The Gym Programme is held at Pettigrew Green Arena.

To take part in the Gym Programme, clients must have a clearance from their General Practitioner (GP). 


Sports Programme

The Sports Programme takes place in the Hastings Sports. A variety of equipment is available for clients to use. 


Aqua Aerobics

Aqua Aerobics is held at the Onekawa community pools.


Hand Function and Exercise 

Exercise group with a focus on balance, resistance work, specific upper limb and hand function with the goal of improving mobility, transfers and everyday activities.


Otago Exercise Programme

This programme is a set of exercises that aim to increase balance, lower limb and core strength with the overall goal of reducing falls and maintaining mobility. This is done to music and involves use of a balance step to really challenge people’s balance.


Relaxation And Tai Chi 

When we experience “stress” our bodies respond by releasing hormones that increase our blood pressure and raise our heart rate. These stress hormones called cortisol also increase our muscle tone often around our shoulders and jaws.

Guided Relaxation and NHS Tai Chi are offered at Strive HB. Both help reduce the impacts of “stress” by encouraging our bodies to relax, reducing muscle tone, lowering our blood pressure and heart rate.

Guided Relaxation is where a group leader directs the focus of the relaxation session. Tai Chi  is a dynamic or free flowing form of moving meditation which helps bring about calm and peace of mind whilst gently exercising the whole body and helps to enhance the flow of Qi (vital energy) within the body.

At Strive HB we are using the NHS Tai Chi programme which is based on Shibashi Qigong.
